How does art criticism work and what are its tools? This workshop aims to explore criticism applied in practice, in its encounter with works of art. Known primarily through words of discourse, criticism also takes shape elsewhere, in earlier stages that are just as crucial to its practice. Through exchanges with the participants, this workshop will seek to shed light on these lesser-known aspects, which may, in our time, ensure the legitimacy and relevance of criticism.

Résidences d’artistes : repenser la rencontre entre création et publics

This guided tour explores artistic practices and collecting through a feminist perspective, understood as a critical framework rather than a simple identity-based position. Through a selection of works and galleries, the visit will address questions of subjectivity, identity, transmission, invisible labor, and the rewriting of art historical narratives. It will also highlight the mechanisms of power and visibility that structure the art market.

Looking otherwise does not mean replacing one gendered point of view with another, but rather questioning the systemic structures and social constructions that shape perception, legitimize certain practices, and marginalize others. It invites participants to examine the historical, economic, and symbolic frameworks through which art is produced, circulated, and collected, making visible the power relations that traverse them. The tour ultimately reflects on how a feminist perspective can reconfigure collecting practices, modes of supporting artists, and the role of galleries within the contemporary art ecosystem.
