Key Skills and Keywords: Project Management Skills: Artists will develop project management, planning, and organizational skills for exhibitions, artistic events, and collaborative art projects. They will learn to manage resources, coordinate teams, and meet deadlines to successfully carry out their artistic projects.

Presented by the National Bank, Plural took place from April 11 to 13 at the Port of Montreal's Grand Quay. The event featured 44 exhibitors and works by over 500 artists.

After three days of vibrant artistic activity, the Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) reports a highly positive outcome for the 18th edition of the fair. Over 10,100 visitors came through the doors of the Grand Quay to discover, admire or acquire an impressive selection of works presented across two floors.

The Association would like to emphasize the fundamental role played by art galleries at Plural, as veritable pillars in the dissemination and showcasing of Canadian artistic practices. AGAC is also delighted by the enthusiasm shown by the public, which reflects the energy and scope of the event.

At a time when certain artistic practices are becoming increasingly dematerialized, and we are witnessing the emergence of sometimes disconcerting virtual art forms, we are also noticing the persistence and even the flourishing of practices rooted in materiality, involving the mastery of know-how. Through a selection of ceramic, textile or sculptural works, we will see how certain artists place the transformation processes of material, sometimes derived from the world of crafts, at the heart of their approach.

Matière et savoir-faire dans les pratiques en art actuel

Organized by Esse in relation to its forthcoming issue on abstraction, this panel discussion will tackle the delicate issue of decolonial abstraction, questioning the problematic and/or productive union of these apparently opposed concepts. Is it possible to dislodge abstraction from its modernist, western-centric roots? Does the resurgence of abstraction in current artistic practices - sometimes deployed from a politically engaged position - allow us to approach abstraction through a decolonial prism, or is the invocation of decoloniality to think about this renewed interest rather symptomatic of the persistence of colonialism?

Floating Narratives: A Walk Through the Key Installations

Over the course of 40 years, the Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) has established itself as a crucial force in the visual arts scene. In addition to federating the interests of its members, the organization has multiplied resourceful projects to stimulate the promotion of contemporary art to a variety of audiences. In both the past and present, AGAC has energized the Canadian art market and reached out beyond. The panelists in this discussion, who have all been at the head of the association, will reveal the highlights of its history, from its very beginnings to the resounding success of its flagship event, the Plural fair.

Présentée par la Banque Nationale, la foire Plural s’est déployée du 11 au 13 avril au Grand Quai du Port de Montréal. L’événement rassemblait 44 exposants et les œuvres de plus de 500 artistes.

Après trois jours d’effervescence artistique, l’Association des galeries d’art contemporain (AGAC) dresse un bilan remarquable de cette 18e édition de la foire. Ce sont plus de 10 100 visiteur·euse·s qui ont franchi les portes du Grand Quai pour découvrir, admirer ou acquérir une impressionnante sélection d’œuvres présentées sur deux étages.

L’Association tient à souligner le rôle fondamental des galeries d'art à Plural, véritables piliers dans la diffusion et la mise en lumière des pratiques artistiques d'ici. Elle se réjouit également de l’enthousiasme manifesté par le public, un élan qui reflète toute l’énergie et la portée de l’événement.



40 ans de l’AGAC: réflexions et perspectives

This panel focuses on ceremonial-political practices carried through the various forms that gestures take in current Indigenous art practices, bringing together artists Nicolas Renaud (Wendat), Dayna Danger (Métis-Saulteaux-Polish) and Jake Kimble (Dënesųłıné) with moderator Léuli Eshrāghi (Tagata Sāmoa). These gestures may allude to sensuality, languages, memory, reparations, affirmation, resistances, resurgence, temporality, healing, and spiritualities, among other driving principles.

Cripistemologies refer to the many different ways of apprehending the world via the rich and diverse experiences of disability, sickness and/or Deafhood. Récits flottants: un parcours des installations phares

This panel, moderated by Dominique Sirois-Rouleau, Executive Director of MOMENTA Biennale d'art contemporain, brings together artist and independent curator Michaëlle Sergile, artist My-Van Dam, and Tamar Tembeck, the Artistic Director of OBORO Artist Centre, for an in-depth reflection on the gaps in individual and collective memories. 

Central to the 19th edition of MOMENTA, which will take place starting September 10, 2025, these issues will drive the discussions between the panelists and the audience, while revealing the multiple facets of invisible narratives and the challenges involved in bringing them to light.

How can you make these pages more useful to your clientele using AI technologies? The workshop will be accompanied by illustrative examples. The visual arts ecosystem in Quebec is composed of a multitude of actors who maintain dynamic relationships marked by cooperation and tension. This roundtable will focus on the contribution of artist-run centres and private galleries in artists' journeys. Through the experiences shared by the invited artists, we will discuss the roles of these institutions in their professional trajectories. By addressing the multiple avenues of an artist's career, we will discuss the points of encounter between artist-run centres and private galleries through a lens of complementarity.
